FIRE IN GALLEY

Kaimanawa Damaged (N Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Aug. 15. The galley of the 2515-ton collier Kaimanawa was extensively damaged when fire broke out in the ship just after noon today. A member of the crew kept the flames under control with a fire extinguisher until the fire brigade arrived. Woodwork in the galley was charred and paint blistered, but there was no structural damage. The Kaimanawa was last week paid off by the Union Steam Ship Company because of a shortage of able seamen. She is waiting to be slipped for a survey.
