FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A trough of low pressure is moving away to the north-east of the North Island. A ridge of high pressure is advancing across the south Tasman toward the South Island. Forecast: Canterbury.—Light variable winds; some fog or low cloud areas in the morning; otherwise clear or partly cloudy; moderate afternoon temperatures. Marlborough and Nelson.—Moderate to fresh southerlies in exposed places about Cook Strait; otherwise light variable winds; some fog or low cloud areas in the morning, but otherwise clear or partly cloudy; moderate afternoon temperatures. Buller and Westland.—Light variable winds; scattered light showers in the morning; otherwise nartly cloudv: moderate temperatures.
