SING TAO TAKES CHARGE
(N.g. Press Association) DUNEDIN. The touring Sing Tao soccer team turned on a fine display of pattern football to outclass Otago by three goals to one and register the first win of its New Zealand tour yesterday. The ground, although greasy in patches, was firm enough for the Hong Kong side to
demonstrate speed and slick: passing on attack. After playing a short-pass-ing game in the first half, Sing Tao went all out to attack in the second half and had complete charge against a sluggish Otago side. The loss was the first of the year for Otago which bad earlier beaten Southland twice and Canterbury. In the early stages Sing Tao made most of the attacking play against the tentative attack and heavy-footed defence of Otago. After 20 minutes Sing Tao had its first real chance when
J. Rae, the Otago right-back, attempted to block a shot with his hands, but the goal-keeper, I. Graves, stopped the penalty with a magnificent save. When Rae offended again Cheung Chi Wai made no mistake. The equaliser came when it was least expected. Chu Pak Woo came well out to cover a shot, but the stocky Otago centre-forward, G. Little, cleverly lobbed the ball over the goal-keeper’s head for a simple goal. With the half nearly up Cheung Chi Wai cannoned a shot at the goal which re-
bounded off the post, but the captain, Cheung Chi Doy, flashed in to slip the ball through a gaping hole. With 20 minutes in the seci ond half gone. Sing Tao burst into a sustained attack that cut the Otago defence to t shreds. A shot by the outside- : right Ati Pang Nin was dei fleeted by Graves, but Cheung i Wai had only to tap the ball , in for a goal. ■ From there Sing Tao was 1 scarcely out of the Otago half | and on attack it sometimes , brought up as many as seven • players.
