PAROTO TENDER
Removal For £75 The successful tender for the remains of the wooden coaster Paroto was £75. Two tenderers headed the other seven with this sum and a ballot was won by Metal Reclaims, Ltd., of New Brighton. The manager of the ’ company (Mr B. F. Cunningham) said he expected to salvage the remaining engine and all other removable parts, including the donkey engine and the main mast and twin propellers, within the next few days. The timbers of the vessel will be removed piecemeal. Salvaging was started at Gore Bay this afternoon, when the anchor chain was removed and sold for £25. The managing director of Dominion Adjustors, Ltd. (Mr C. S. P. Nicholls) said tenders would be called in about a week for the material salvaged for his firm. They included the starboard engine, the auxiliary generator, the life raft and quite a number of fittings that were removed from the vessel. The 128-ton coaster, built in Auckland in the 19205, ran aground at Gibson’s Point, Gore Bay, in heavy fog early on the morning of August 3. The sea is skwly removing the covering timbers on the seaward side of the vessel, although it is still lodged on 'an even keel.
