Three Clubs Tie in Badminton
A round-robin play-off betwoen Knox A, Christchurch and Railway A will dacida the winner of the A grade Inter-dub badminton this season.
The Christchurch-Knox A game tn the Anal round was keenly contested and at the three-quarter stage each team had won three matches. Then Christchurch applied the pressure through Its experienced mixed doubles combinations and Knox A lost the last two matches, and the game. E. Ogier and Miss S. Field raised Knox's hopes when they led B. E. Wylie and Mrs M. Wylie 14-4 in the first set. But the Christchurch pair stormed to victory by winning 26 of the succeeding 31 points. The key match was the men's singles between B. W. Crofts (Knox A) and D. B. Reid, the Christchurch left-hander. The two craftsmen fought a succession of technically superb duels at close range, but fteid'a ability to switch the shuttle deftly from one side of the court to the other was the deciding factor. In the other games Army beat Knox B 5-3. and Railway B gained a' 7-1 win against Seiwyn. The new Canterbury women's singles champion, Miss B. Gormack. was the only winner for Seiwyn.
