RACING Southern Jumpers To Clash Again In Lincoln

The Grand National meeting has been one of spectacular success for Southland jumpers, and the position is hardly likely to change on the final day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting on Saturday.

Game Call and Eiffel Tower, winners of the two Grand Nationals, are again engaged at Riccarton on Saturday. A third meeting in a fortnight between Game Call and Eiffel Tower’s stablemate. Kora), should make the Lincoln Steeplechase the most interesting race on Saturday’s programme.

On the corresponding day of the Grand National meeting last year Koral won the Lincoln Steeples and Game Call won the Sydenham Hurdles. Koral was rounding off a treble that had never been written into the record books before—the Homeby, Grand National, and the Lincoln in successive starts. Koral escaped a penalty for the Grand National Steeplechase after his Homeby win this year, but he will be attempting his second Lincoln Steeples victory with 10-8, 61b more than he carried into third behind Game Call and I Linred last week and 41b more than he carried in the Lincoln last year. Five Lengths For a five lengths’ beating from Game Call in the Grand National Koral will meet the; Gore gelding 51b better over half a mile less. None will jump the country better than Koral, but the Grand National winner’s lively turn of pace could again be decisive if he dodges mistakes. A third form runner for Southland in the Lincoln | Steeples is Alaine, which is. unbeaten in two starts in l minor steeplechases at the: meeting. Southern Cloud was stepped j up from the minor jumping events to run in the Lincoln: last year, and his stamina and same jumping carried him I into second place. Alaine, with 9-2, could improve a remarkably consistent' record on Saturday; he is a; place prospect at least from his position in the weights. The Grand National Hurdles winner, Eiffel Tower, will have only three rivals in the Sydenham Hurdles on Saturday. and it is doubtful if any of them —Grand Coeur, Robert, Earl, and Pahi—will put him to the test. Eiffel Tower’s younger brother. Mosque, already winner of three races in as many starts over hurdles at Riccar-i ton, could take that spectacular record a stage further in' the Styx Hurdles on Saturday.
