Fire Damages Kitchen
Fire damaged the kitchen of the two-storey house occupied by Mr M. van de Poele, of 12 Memorial avenue, yesterday afternoon. Firemen from the Harewood and Sockbum stations answered the alarm at 5.3 p.m. and used one hose from a high-pressure hydrant to put out the blaze. Traffic was heavy at the time. Vehicles travelling out from the city used a detour down Clyde road, up Hamilton avenue and down Ham road on to Memorial avenue past the house. A fault in the wiring of an electric motor under the floor of the sitting-room of a house occupied by Mr P. Davies, 257 Locksley avenue, caused a fire which did slight damage to the floor and earpet. St. Albans and Headquarters stations firemen anIswered the alarm at 4.29 p.m.
