Meetings With A Purpose

(N.Z. Press Association! AUCKLAND. August 9. The migration of Maori people to the cities is a current social phenomenon which in Auckland can be expected to increase considerably on Friday. An extraordinary lot of business requiring the personal attention of people from as far away as Wellington, has suddenly developed in Auckland. The Maori Council,

whose delegates come from as far away as Invercargill, will meet at Mangere on Thursday and Friday. The arrangements for the co-ordination of the John Waltiti memorial scholarship campaign on a national basis is to be discussed at another meeting to which representatives of several North Island, particularly East Coast, areas have been invited. Maori parents from

northern districts will spend the latter part of the week in Auckland being shewn employment possibilities which could interest their children in the city. There are also school concerts and church gatherings arranged. It is perhaps not such a coincidence that, in addition to all this important business there will be a Rugby match in which the Lions play the Maoris.
