Report Awaited On Roll-On Ship
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 9. A report on the feasibility of a roll-on, roll-off passenger vessel across the Tasman should be released within a few weeks, the Minister of Tourism (Mr Eyre) told Parliament today.
The Union Steam Ship Company recently decided to order roll-on roll-off cargo vessels for the Tasman run. Mr Eyre said the frequency of sailings for trans-Tasman passengers had “improved considerably” in the last 12 months, but a regular weekly passenger service could be
advantageous to cater for those who preferred sea travel. “Before the announcement by the Union Company, the feasibility of a roll-on, rolloff passenger vessel was under investigation by the Government, and the report should be released within the next few weeks,” said Mr Eyre.
