British Win Marred By Infringements
(Neto Zealand Press Association* WELLINGTON. The British Rugby League team beat Wellington 28-9 in a game marred by infringments yesterday. The penalty count favoured Wellington, 27-5.
Wellington, playing with the advantage of a stiff southerly, led. 9-8. at half-time. Wellington was without its full-back, the captain W. Harrison. in the second half. He retired with a leg injury a minute before the interval. The British team scored four converted tries in the second half. Ordered Off Britain’s test centre. A. Buckley, was ordered off by the referee, Mr E. Pilcher, after 68 minutes. Buckley stiff-armed the Wellington winger. R. Wood, when he was chasing a loose ball. Wood
left the field injured, but returned moments later. Britain, superior back and forward, scored six tries to one. Wellington could well have had a handy half-time lead with better goal-kicking. B. Beri. G. Smith, and P. Hanna missed five shots between them. Wellington, under constant pressure in the second half, made its task harder by kicking away possession. Often caught flat-footed, it could not match the penetration of the big and bursting British for wards. Wellington tackled well for most of the game, but wilted in the closing stages. For Britain the loose forward, D. Robinson, and the props, Watson and B. Edgar, were outstanding. Britain used its backs much more extensively than Wellington. Keegan, who made some incisive runs, scored 13 points—a try and five goals. For Britain Buckley. W. Ramsey, C. Clarke, Watson, Robinson and Keegan scored tries, Keegan converted four tries and kicked a penalty.
