INCREASE IN WAGES
Employees Of Councils Wage Increases ranging from £ll to £3O a year have been granted by the Court of Arbitration to workers employed under the Clerical Workers’ Award of Canterbury borough councils. The award does not include workers receiving more than £1385 a year, exclusive of overtime or bonus payments. Employees passing B.Corn., Institute of Local Body Administrative Officers, accountancy professional or Chartered Institute of Secretaries examinations now receive an additional £64 a year, £l2 more than under the previous 'award. Those working later than 6 p.m. receive a 6s meal allowance —an increase of 6d i —and those using their bi- ' cycle in the course of their i employment now receive an allowance of 3s 6d a week, again an increase of 6d. The award, the terms of which were reached by the assessors in Conciliation Council, came into force on August 3 and continues in force until October 31 next year. The provisions relating to wages are retrospective to the first day of the pay period on or after June 16.
