REVENUE FROM CUSTOMS
Less Collected In Christchurch Less revenue was collected by the Customs Department in Christchurch during July than in the same month last year. Total collection was £763,721 against £880,069. Customs and excise fell from £613,235 in July last year to £493,450, while only £B3l was collected in miscellaneous duties against £5790. But sales tax rose from £259,152 to £267,672 and light dues from £845 to £1768. No tyre duty was collected during the month; last year £1047 was collected. Dunedin Customs revenue for July at the port of Otago showed a decrease compared with July last year. Customs duty, £126,778 against £147,538 in July last year; sales tax, £80,951 (£111,827); miscellaneous, £80,256 (£106,838); total, £287,985 (£366,204).
