Proposal

The Auckland Football Association has proposed to Canterbury that it form a regional soccer league as a first step towards a national competition. A letter from Auckland was received by the Canterbury F. A. management committee last evening. It was decided to discuss Auckland’s proposals in a fortnight. Auckland has suggested that Canterbury, Wellington, and Otago each form regional leagues, on the same lines as the northern league now operating in the Auckland province.

From this beginning said the letter, they would move on to island leagues and later to a national league. Transferred.-r~The curtainraiser at English Park on Saturday, between Shirley-No-mads and Waterside may be transferred to Malvern Park. The committee will make a decision on Friday. It was anxious to preserve the pitch for the Sing Tao (Hong Kong) match against Canterbury next Tuesday. Early Start—All games, except the Chatham Cup South Island final and its curtainraiser, will start at 12.45 p.m. on August 20. This will enable all players to watch the final between Western and St Kilda (Dunedin). Suspended. A. Costigan (New Brighton) was suspended up to and including August 19 for “ungentlemanly conduct” during a match last Saturday. Another Brighton player, J. Warren, was suspended until he appears before the committee for “violent conduct” in a match last Saturday. Annual Meeting.—The association’s annual general meeting win be held on December 13.
