Pianist Bidden Farewell
Leeston residents paid a district compliment to a talented pianist when they packed the Leeston School assembly hall last week for a farewell concert by Miss Patricia Free, who will leave New Zealand next week for further musical studies at the Royal College of Music, London.
A cheque for £145 was presented to Miss Free. She received her early musical training at the Leeston Convent, where she was taught by Sister Henry. She gained her L.R.S.M. when she was 18, having passed all grades with distinction and also has her L.T.C.L. for violin. In 1965, she wan the “Evening Post” piano scholarship at the Wellington Festival of Arts and was first violin with the Aiamein Quartet, which secured second place in the North Island chamber music contest
