PRODUCTION OF WOOL
“Abnormal Rise This Year”

TIMARU, August 2.
The 11J per cent gain in wool production this year was an abnormal increase, and was the highest since the 8 per cent rise in 1958, said the chairman of the New Zealand Wool Board (Mr J. Acland). Mr Acland, who is attending the first meeting of the board to be held in Timaru, said he hoped that production in 1968 would rise to 750 million lb. The good increase this year was the result of. the previous season’s drought, the use of fertiliser, taxation incentives and previous good prices, said Mr Acland. The position of wool in the world market was strong, with a further chance of strengthening on the longterm view. “This has Indicated once again that every pound of wool produced in the world is wanted, and poses the question whether enough wool is being produced,” said Mr Acland.
