LABOUR ONLY
Discussion By Unions
Further action to be taken against jobs on which Masonry Services, Ltd., of Christchurch, is claimed to be blocklaying with labour-only contracts, will be discussed at a special meeting in the Trades Hall at 3.30 ?,m. on Monday. The special meeting will be attended by executive members of the Canterbury Trades Council of the Federation of Labour, executive members of the Canterbury Carpenters’ Union and representatives of other unions likely to become involved. The Trades Council is objecting to payment only by result for blocklaying or bricklaying, instead of by award wages and conditions as laid down by the New Zealand Bricklayers Award.
The managing director of Masonry Services (Mr H. P. Oberg) said he had no comment to make at this stage.
The president of the Trades Council (Mr R. A. Hill) said that carpenters were walking off jobs on which Masonry Services, Ltd., was blocklaying on a labour-only system.
