FRENCH FORCES
N.A.T.O. Deadlock (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) PARIS, July 28. The United States and its allies reached total deadlock with France yesterday on the future status of French forces in Geri many. The N.A.T.O. permanent I council has now gone into recess until September. The deadlock was admitted after a meeting of the council lasting hardly 30 minutes. It followed a two-hour session in the morning of permanent representatives of all the N.A.T.O. member countries except France. It had become clear that France and the other members were poles apart in deciding the legal status of French troops, which were withdrawn from the N.A.T.O. command on July 1. President de Gaulle withdrew his 62,000 troops and airmen and three tactical air force wings in Germany from the N.A.T.O. command as part of his withdrawal from the alliance’s military set-up. [
