NO AGREEMENT BY U.S.

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) WASHINGTON, July 27. The United States has made it clear that it disagrees with Premier Ky’s assertion that the allies should invade North Vietnam and confront China now, says United Press International.

The State Department tried to avoid a direct slap at the South Vietnam leader, but pointed out that its policy did not envisage the actions which Premie* Ky urged. The press officer, Mr Robert J. McCloskey, said he “would not wish to comment directly” on Premier Ky’s call. He said: “Our position of not seeking any wider war has been repeatedly made clear and remains our posi-

tion. We do not seek to threaten any regime.” He declined to repudiate Premier Ky’s statement flatly as urged by several influential Congressmen, including the Senate Democratic leader, Mr Mike Mansfield. Mr Mansfield called on President Johnson’s Administration to dissociate itself promptly and completely from Premier Ky’s advocacy of an invasion of the north.
