Fresh Air

Sir, —Something positive should be done to greatly reduce the amount of filth and soot that is spewed out into the atmosphere each year over our fair city. Domestic fires contribute most to forming the smog because of the poor-quality coal and dirty chimneys, while the gas works, railway sheds, and large manufacturing firms are a close second. In these conditions, closed windows become necessary not only to try to keep out the polluted atmosphere but also the everincreasing din of noisy vehicles which seem to completely ignore the 30 m.p.h. speed limit. Immediate action by the appropriate authorities is essential.— Yours, etc., ALL ELECTRIC. July 27, 1966.
