Christ’s, St. Andrew’s Beaten

'•‘The Press’* Special Sertice DUNEDIN. Christ's College lost Its Inter-school Rugby match against Otago Boys* High School at Dunedin yesterday 17-3, In a muddy battle brightened by some fast baca movements. Christ’s College was beaten in the forwards in the first half, and consequently had less ball in the backs, but came back in the second spell. However, It could not penetrate and scored no more points after half-time. The half-time score was 9-3. Christ s College’s only points were from a try just before half-time by their half-back, A. Perry. I Otago boys gained a forward I advantage early in the game land used their backs effectively Ito score five tries, four by backs. Against this 80-minute attack Christ's College could only muster the ability to score

one try, and spent the rest of the time covering up. The Christchurch team was outclassed in the forwards and backs, but at times showed it could work well together. The muddy ground did not prevent fast running from either backline, but certainly hindered many movements. Christ’s College was also affected by injuries, when the wing. N. Piper, and centre, C. Palmer, left the field. R. Hart was the outstanding player in the Christ’s College team, playing hard in the tight and loose. The other flanker. P. Anderson, also had a good game. I. Morten and J. Morris worked untiringly through the game, but the whole pack formed a good combination. A- Perry overcame any difficulties at half-back to play an important part in his team’s effort, and the full back, A. Porter was steady. His replacement, C. Hartnell, stopped several potential try-scoring movements.

"The Press" Special Service DUNEDIN. St. Andrew's had itself to blame when it lost 15-8 to John McGlashan in the annual Rugby match played in Dunedin yesterday. Its forwards, with a heavier pack, gained more ball from set play, but the backs let It down. During the first half McGlashan caught them in possession most of the time. They fumbled the ball on most occasions and lacked the speed to draw away from the determined McGlashan backs. D. Mclntosh, the St. Andrew's lock, played a hard game and took the ball cleanly for his side in most of the line-outs. The St. Andrew's forwards were fast upon the loose ball but could do little against the tight McGlashan defence. After 30 minutes of play R. Moore opened tha score for St.

Andrews with a fine try. He kicked the ball through the McGlasban team and found the gap in its defence, picked the ball up and scored in the corner. With its account opened. St. Andrew's opened play up and ran well -with the ball. The handling improved in the backs and the team appeared more confident. . With several lapses the team improved through the game, and minutes before full-time M. Moore went over to score after several attacking movements by the visiting side. D. Mclntosh converted. In the remaining minutes St. Andrew's remained on attack. Scorers were: R. and M. Moore a try each, and D. Mclntosh a conversion. For McGlashan. T. Chance scored three tries, R. Craigle another, and N. Fergusson kicked a penalty. St. Andrew's also lost the In-ter-sehool shooting by 679 points to 662.
