Associate Professor W. R. Andress, who joined the mathematics department of the University of Canterbury from England in 1946, will retire at the end of this year. Mr D. Munro, founder of the New Zealand Opera Company, has been appointed teacher of singing and head of the opera department of the Elder Conservatorium of Music, Adelaide University. He founded the Opera Company in 1954 and resigned last April.—(P.A.) Mr Brian Barrett has been appointed conductor of the Skellerup - Woolston Brass Band. He was a member of the 1953 National Band. Mr Barrett holds the degree of bachelor of music, is conductor of the Canterbury Univer-[ sity Madrigal Singers, and music master at the Linwood High School. Mr C. J. Williams has been appointed assistant secretary to the Post-Primary Teachers’ Association. He was formerly Director of Education for Western Samoa.—(P.A.)
