Christchurch Visit

The world president of the Junior Chamber International (Mr E. A, Merdes) will visit Christchurch for little more than six hours on August 12. Mr Merdes will speak at a Junior Chamber luncheon to be held in the Horticultural Hall. Before that he will meet the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr G. Manning). At 5.30 p.m. he will leave Christchurch by air for Sydney. A 39-year-old Pennsylvanian, Mr Merdes was elected world president in November, 1965.

He is a former assistant Federal prosecuting attorney and a former deputy assistant Attorney-General in Alaska. Mr Merdes became the first president of the Alaska Junior Chamber in 1957. In 1958 he was elected a national vicepresident. During his term as world president, Mr Merdes will visit many of the 77 national organisation members of the movement.
