Palisade Melbourne Cup Top-weight

(Special Correspondent NJ2.P.A.) MELBOURNE. The veteran South Island stayer, Palisade, top handicap horse of the season in New Zealand, heads the weights for this year’s Melbourne Cup with 9-6, and is second top-weight with 9-5 in the Caulfield Cup.

The weights were announced on Saturday by the Victoria Racing Club's secretary (Mr K. Ryan).

The Melbourne Cup (two miles) will be run at Flemington on November 1. The Caulfield Cup will be run over 12 furlongs at Caulfield on October 15. Palisade will be nine whan the race la run.

The Australian welght-for-age horse. Craftsman. tops the Caulfield Cup list with 9-6— lib more than Palisade.

Palisade s trainer. D. P. Wilson. told the Melbourne "Sun” by telephone yesterday afternoon that he considered the veteran stayer had his share of we.ght.

Wilson said he had expected Palisade to get 9-1. He said he would consult the horse s owner before deciding whether Palisade would start.
