Obituary

MISS M. DYKES Miss Margaret Dykes, well known in Christchurch for her work with intellectually handicapped children, died last week. For several years, Miss Dykes taught the special class at Sydenham School. She was later infant mistress at Riccarton School, leaving there to start the Sockburn Assisted* School. Until a few months ago she was infant mistress at Linwood Avenue School.

A former president of the Associated Group of Supervisors of Junior Classes she was president of the North Canterbury branch of the Women Teachers’ Association and an executive member of both organisations. An active church worker, Miss Dykes was a former president of the Presbyterian Girls’ Auxiliary.
