Reduction In Service (N.Z. Pr«>( A«ioc<at<on> AUCKLAND, July 19. The Northern Steamship Company, Ltd., has decided to cease its general cargo service from South Island east coast ports to Tauranga, the general manager, Mr A. G. Hardy, announced today. The final sailing in this service would be later this week when the Awanui sailed from Timaru. Bulk wheat shipments, for which one of the company’s fleet was specially fitted out, would continue to be carried to Tauranga. The company gave as Its reasons the progressive decline in available cargo from the south, and the fact that a mutiplicity of ports had to be worked to obtain even part cargoes for Tauranga. As there was insufficient depth of water for vessels to safely work the port of Ohope it suffered a loss of back loading, he said.
