Transparent Look Popular
(Special Crspdt, N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, July 18. New accessory ideas were introduced in London today when the Society of London Fashion Designers held its first show of the autumn collections.
The highlight of the show was the mini-skirt, which was produced at a price of nearly £250 in navy blue Lakoda seal.
The most popular gimmick exploited was the “seethrough” look. One shoe firm produced summer boots 12in high in transparent smoked plastic. With holes punched in the soles for ventilation, they will cost £l5 a pair. Another pair of handsewn diamante-studded evening sandals, with wedge heels and see-through sides, costs 50gns. Also featured were
velvet slippers with handembroidered diamante monograms. One millinery firm displayed a series of transparent plastic hats. There were visor helmets with plas-
tic brims, mink bonnets with dog-chain trimmings and huge cloches that looked like white lampshades. One of the most dynamic stands was that of Embroidery House. It featured brilliantly sequined evening tops with diamond - sprinkled sleeves, to be worn with long skirts or trousers. Parisian celluoid petals were sewn on to garments in silver, gold or fluorescent petrol colours.
