NO HANDS

Two men pushed a 1946 model Austin car in Colombo street yesterday to get it started. The car started—and went off driverless. The car was being pushed by the driver, aged about 60, and a young man. The driver leaned in the door and put the car in second gear while it was moving with his friend still pushing. The engine roared into life and the driver fell on the road. The car, travelling north, crossed the entrance to Bath street, swerved across the road and hit a 1965 Zephyr.

This car was stationary, with the driver waiting to turn right into Colombo street The driverless car, after damaging the front of the stationary car, swerved back across Colombo street to its correct side. However, it then hit a parking meter, It cannoned off that and cut through a fence into a car sales yard. It smacked into the front of a 1961 Jaguar, causing considerable damage. The impact shot the Jaguar back into a 1959 Vauxhall, damaging the front of it and rear of the Jaguar. However, the inertia of both cars stalled the driverless car.
