TROTTING New York Feature Race To Tactile

The former Southland pacer, Tactile, was the major New Zealand-bred winner at trotting meetings held throughout the United States during the week ended July 9.

Tactile was successful in an invitation event at Roosevelt Raceway, New York, beating Adios Marches and Smokeover, the latter also New Zea-land-bred. The race carried a stake of 15,000 dollars. Tactile paced the mile in 2min 1 3-ssec, the opening quarter in 30 2-ssec, the half-mile in Imin 2 l-ssec, and the six furlongs in Imin 31 4-ssec. Lowry Bay finished seventh in 2min 2 4-ssec, Smoke Concert fourth in 2min ssec, and Urrall sixth in 2min 2 2-ssec at the same meeting. Caught Napping won a race over five furlongs in Imin 15 sec at Liberty Bell, Philadelphia. The stake was 1500 dollars. Later finished sixth over one mile in 2min 4 3-ssec.

Caught Napping paid 13.20 dollars for a win. Garcon d’Or finished third in a feature race won in 2min 0 4-ssec at the meeting. Afton Judge and Tarpot Joe finished in front of him. The 1964 New Zealand Cup winner, Cairnbrae, gained his second win. This was at Saratoga Springs where he recorded 2min 6 l-ssec and paid four dollars for two dollars for a win. He 3OO dollars as his share of the stake of 600 dollars. Intrigue won again at Garden City Raceway, St. Catharines, Ontario. He recorded 2min 5 2-ssec in a race worth 1800 dollars. Highland Countess won a race of 3000 dollars at Vernon Downs Raceway, New York, trotting her mile in 2min 4 4-ssec. Scotch Bomb, Fitment, Craig Andrew and Little Smoke recorded placings during the week.
