WELLINGTON, July 18. The general manager of the Dairy Board (Mr A. H. Ward) has called for less emphasis on the distinction between primary and manufactured goods represented in New Zealand trade missions sent overseas.

“It’s a pity that this division between manufactured and so-called primary goods should be perpetuated,” said Mr Ward.

“The simple fact is that all New Zealand dairy products

sent overseas have been through some stage of manufacture.” His appeal was supported by the Manufacturers’ Federation president (Mr J. R. Maddren). Mr Ward’s comments prompted the Minister of Overseas Trade (Mr Marshall) to tell the Trade Promotion Council meeting in Wellington that each year the degree of processing of New Zealand farm produce was increasing. This was especially true in the dairy products field, where the industry now produced a wide range of manufactured goods for sale in many markets of the world. It was also becoming increasingly true of the meat industry, said Mr Marshall.

Advertising not only does not Increase the cost of the advertised article, but, on the contrary, makes economies possible that benefit consumers.
