Visit By Six American University Students
A party of six student leaders from the United States will visit Christchurch this month. The group includes five men and one woman. All are members of their own university’s student association executive, and are experienced in state and national student affairs. They have travelled overseas previously. A letter received by the executive of the Canterbury Students’ Association outlines the purpose of the visit. The students will visit major university centres “to meet and discuss with leaders of student government and to meet in particular student groups disaffected with the older generation.” The students also hope to “meet with and participate in active student organisations and groups of various sorts; to discuss the role of student government, the responsibility of student leadership, and the relative Importance of cultural activities in student life with a wide variety of students.” The leader of the group is

Chairman of the national advisory board of the United States National Students’ Association, and the editor of a student newspaper, he is the oldest of the group and the only graduate. The girl is Miss Elsa Holt?, aged 19, of the International Christian University, Tokyo, Japan. She is experienced in Japanese and United States liaison and has travelled extensively in the Far East. The other members of the party are Messrs C. Deveaux, aged 20, of the State University of New York, A Malano, aged 22, of Brookland College, New York, S.
