N.Z. Man Wanted For Outward Bound
The president of the New Zealand Outward Bound Trust (Mr D. J. Ewart), said that Mr H. S. Thomas, warden of the Outward Bound School at Anakiwa, would be hard to replace. Mr Thomas announced last week his intention to retire from the post in August or September.
Mr Ewart said Mr Thomas and his wife had thoroughly identified themselves with the movement and had given invaluable service but the council agreed with Mr Thomas’s statement that a warden should not grow old in the job. The council particularly wanted a New Zealander to fill the position which would be advertised on a national basis, said Mr Ewart. The successful applicant would be given the opportunity to become familiar with Outward Bound principles and methods. Mr Ewart said 2000 boys had now gone through the school and courses were fully booked up till the end of the year with some booked for 1967. He said it was rewarding to know that so many individuals and organisations continued to sponsor boys and to report benefits from the training they received. The recent increase in fees to £5O a course helped to meet
costs but the movement still relied on members renewing their subscriptions each year, said Mr Ewart.
