UNIONS IN ASIA

F.O.L Joins Organisation (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 18. The Federation of Labour has joined the Asian Regional Organisation, a wing of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions. The president of the F.O.L, (Mr T. E. Skinner) said that the move would result in a closer affinity among all trade unions in the Asian area. Complete understanding of one another’s problems could mean members would support one another by sympathetic strike action, he said. In comparison with other countries, unions in New Zealand were restricted in using the strike as a weapon of attack. The unions had grown up under a system of negotiating. The strike weapon was adopted as a last resort when other methods had failed.
