Placed With No Reins
(N.Z. Press Assn.— Copyright) MELBOURNE. The Melbourne jumping jockey, R. Frazier, put up one of the finest riding feats ever seen at Caulfield, when he rode the last nine furlongs of the Leamington Hurdle on Saturday hanging on to his horse’s mane, and finished fourth. Dulu hit the hurdle at the mile post of the two miles and one furlong race and shot the reins out of Frazier’s hands. The reins, flew over Dulu’s head and he put hie leg through them. For the rest of the race Frazier rode hanging on to Dulu’s mane with one hand, while trying to grab the reins with the other. In spite of this, Dulu made up a lot of ground and finished fourth, only four and a half lengths behind the New Zealand-bred winner. Premium. Frazier said later: "It was the biggest fright of my life. 1 didn’t know how I would get over the next hurdle.’’
