Smith (Australia) on Saturday won the women’s singles final with a confident 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 win over the South African, Miss A. van Zyl, in the Hoylake tennis tournament. However, another Australian, R. A. Hewitt, was thrashed in the men’s final by M. J. Sangster (Britain), 6-1, 6-1.
