Three Tries To A. N. Amer
PAPANUI 32: A. N. Amer (3), G. H. Clarke, P. Baillie and K. C. Pearce tries; J. C. Hawthorne seven goals. KAIAPOI 17: Brandon Williams a try; J. E. Bond seven goals. Papanui scored a decisive win over Kaiapoi after narrowly leading 12-8 at half-time. A feature of the game was Hawthorne and Bond's kicking. However, Papanui's strength lay in its ability to score tries and it succeeded in notching six to Kaiapoi’s one, Amer played extremely well on the leftwing for Papanui. He scored three consecutive tries and frequently penetrated the defence with side-stepping breaks. Clark gave a competent display at scrum-half for Papanui, as did Hawthorne, S. Dunn and Baillie in the three-quart-ers. D. G. Alsop had one of his best games of the season in the winning pack. T. L. Bisman continues to impress with his cool ball distribution, while Pearce ran with great verve in the open. Bond, G. Chaney and the veteran. N. L. Isle, were Kaiapoi’s most rugged forwards. B. McConnon, at stand-off half and Brandon and Barry Williams in the three-quarters were enterprising backs. Referee: Mr J. Hillsdon.
