How It Feels To Relax With A Sauna
Model Sharron Murphy, a trim blonde, healthily suntanned, describes a typical bath. •T‘ set the unit up and switch it on to high for about 10 minutes. This gives the bath time to warm up. During this 10 minutes I cleanse my face of all traces of make-up" says Sharron. I Sharron then places a I towel on the seat, leaving it suspended in front of the I heating unit to protect her legs. She then pulls the cover around her neck and zips herself in. "And then there’s nothing left to do except relax and enjoy I it," she says. “While it Is warm inside, the sides of .the cabinet remain cool. The heat gradually steals over me up to my neck. Within 10 1 minutes I start to perspire." I The manufacturers say some people may take longer, and others not so long, to build up to perspiration. The time taken depends largely on the differing metabolism rates of each individual Grateful skin Says Sharron: "It Is an extremely good idea to unzip the cover a little way down from the neck and put your face down in the warmth for a few moments. Your skin will certainly be grateful” The reason for this, - say the manufacturers, is that in an area of one square centimetre of our skins there are three million individual cells. If you compare the delicate construction under a microscope, with a particle Of dust or a blob of cosmetic grease, you would realise that even the healthiest of skins live dangerously. One of Sharron’s favourite ways of passing time in the sauna bath is to read a book. She leaves the zipper open to free her hands for holding the book. A towel around her neck closed the space between, keeping the heat sealed inside the cabinet She remains in the sauna about 25 minutes all told. Thirty minutes is the maximum time recommended by the manufacturers of the unit But if feelings of discomfort arise, it’s best to step out- because the time a body can take a warm atmosphere differs with many people.
