Reasons For Her Happy Marriage

Learning to appreciate her husband's taste in movies and keeping the house quiet in the early morning are two things which Mrs Rosalina Vargas, wife of LieutenantGeneral Jesus Vargas, Secretary-General of 5.E.A.T.0., thinks have made her 35-year-old marriage happy.

Mre Vargas likes to see a good dramatic movie sometimes. Her husband likes action films with happy endings. She and their eldest granddaughter, who is with them in Bangkok, usually see a film once a week.

Mrs Vargas was a teacher before she married her husband, then a junior officer in the Philippine Constabulary. “We have always been happy,” she said. “I was lucky to get such a good husband and family.” . Mrs Vargas believes that It is the little things which contribute much to the success or failure of a marriage. She has always made a point of being interested in the things her husband likes and considers that she and her husband have a good understanding of each other. “When we were first married, I noticed there were certain things he did not like, so I never did them. I discovered my husband liked me to be home when he got home unless he knew I would be out. So I always tell him where I am going. “My husband is not an early riser and he does not like noise. So I keep the house quiet for him,” said Mrs Vargas. Mrs Vargas said her husband was firm in his belief that if a person could not do

a job he was given then he should quit.

“He is always telling the children this and that they should try to do their best at any job or quit,” she said. “He would give up his job as secretary-general if he felt he could not do it properly.” General Vargas and his wife have been in Bangkok for a year. Mrs Vargas has not been able to go home to Manila to see her four children, all of whom are married, and her 15 grandchildren. So she is looking forward to a 45-minute stop at Manila Airport on the way back to Bangkok on Sunday. “I have written to the children to tell them. It will be wonderful to see them all,” she said.
