VACANCIES FOR MAGISTRATES IN FIJI THERE WILL BE TWO VACANCIES for Magistrates in the Judicial Department of the Government of Fiji this year, the first in August and the second in about December. The qualifications required of candidates for these posts are: Not less than three years' professional experience as Barristers or Solicitors after Call or Admission, as the case may be. Candidates under the age of 40 years will be preferred but consideration may be given to candidates over that age. The duties of a Magistrate are to preside over Magistrates’ Courts of the First Class. Those appointed must be willing to serve in any place in the Colony where a Magistrate’s Court is established and to be transferred within the Colony as the Honourable the Chief Justice may direct The salary paid will depend on qualifications and experience but will be in the scale £F1407 to £F2IBI per annum. An inducement allowance varying from £F32I at a salary of £F1407 to £F49B at a salary of £F2IBI is paid to officers who are not of Fiji origin and who are recruited outside Fiji. Appointment will be on contract, initially for three years. A gratuity of 25% of salary (including inducement allowance), is paid on successful completion of the contract. Free passages by air from the country of recruitment to Fiji and return at the end of the period of the contract are provided for the officer, his wife and his children under the age of 18 years, up to a limit of four children.
