GUARANTEE BY GOVT.

Potato Board Funds (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 27. The Government has approved the continuation of its guarantee of the New Zealand Potato Board’s funds to enable it to assure contract growers of a specific payment a ton for surplus potatoes in the 1966-67 season, the chairman of the board (Mr W. M. Williams) has announced. The Government has also accepted the board’s recommendation that the following schedule of prices a ton be included in the 1966-67 contract: Suttons and King Edward, South Island, £l4; North Island, £l6; Katahdin, £l3, £l5; all other varieties, £B, £lO. It was proposed that the maximum rate of growers’ levy during 1967 should be 20s a ton, instead of 25s as in 1965 and 1966 and 30s a ton for some years before that.
