Appointment In London A Christchurch-born doctor, Dr. W. I. McDonald, has been appointed a consultant neurologist at the National Hospital for Nervous Diseases in London. He is only the second New Zealander to join the consulting staff of the institution, which is associated with the Institute of Neurology of the University of London, and is the leading British hospital for nervous diseases. Dr. McDonald is the son of the late Mr W. A. C. McDonald, of Christchurch, and Mrs McDonald, now in Boston, where Dr. McDonald has been working with Dr. D. DennyBrown, the other New Zealander who has been a consulting staff member of the National Hospital for Nervous Diseases. Dr. McDonald was educated at St. Andrew’s College. He graduated M. 8., Ch.B., from the University of Otago in 1957, having already gained a bachelor’s degree in medical science, and in 1962 was awarded a Ph.D. by the university. He trained as a. final-year medical student at the Christchurch Hospital, where he won the Ardagh Prize. In 1963 he became a member of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, and after he went to the National Hospital for Nervous Diseases in London, for further research and clinical work, he became a member of the Royal College of Physicians of London. Dr. McDonald has published many papers in various neurological journals. •
