GOLF CLUBS STOLEN

Thieves’ £7OO Haul (N.Z. Press Association) WAIPUKURAU, June 20. Thieves who broke into the Waipukurau Golf Club’s clubhouse at the week-end stole 10 full sets of clubs valued at more than £7OO and left trundlers and golf bags piled up on the ground outside the locker room. About 120 clubs were stolen, the secretary (Mr F. P. Spinley) said today. Mr Spinley discovered the theft early yesterday morning. The clubs had been left in an unlocked room. “It was not locked because members used it at all times,” said Mr Spinley. “The most disturbing feature about the theft is that the clubs are virtually irreplaceable. You cannot buy a new set of clubs in the town for love or money.” Earlier this year thieves broke into the club and stole a sum of money.
