Complaints Not Lodged
“I have no official information that university students are taking part in ‘Carnage*, and I should be surprised if it was the kind of pastime that would appeal to more than a small minority,” said the new Vice-Chancellor of the University of Canterbu-y (Professor N. C. Phillips) when asked for his views on the “game.” “Certainly no complaints have been lodged with the Proctor or with me. Participants—if there are any—will, I trust, act with a proper sense of responsibility,” said Professor Phillips. “If, however, this confidence should be misplaced and offences against person or property should occur, any students concerned would be liable not only to police action in pursuance of the law of the land but also to the exercise of the disciplinary powers of the university."
