Rubber Plant Shed Gutted
(N.Z. Press Association! AUCKLAND, June 19. Fire gutted a 6000 square foot shed—part of the Reid (N.Z.) Rubber Mills, Ltd.’s reclaim plant—in Penrose road, Auckland, early yesterday, causing about £30,000 damage. Six engines had the fire under control by 6 a.m., an hour after it was noticed by the caretaker, Mr J. Read. The plant was used to process waste rubber for further use. The fire is believed to have been caused by spontaneous combusion in the waste rubber. The secretary of the mills (Mr W. H. K. Mollard) said: “The damage was extensive, but it will not affect production too badly.” The building and its contents were insured.
