Tatua Too Good For Rivals At Awapuni

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) PALMERSTON NTH. Tatua made an exhibition of his rivals in the Booth’s Gin Winter Handicap on the second day of . the Manawatu Racing Club’s meeting at Awapuni.

He led all the way under his 9-9 and won by three and a half lengths from Laramie, which chased him all the way. Blue Defaulter was third, just ahead of Chatty Lad. Gus made his record five wins on end when he; won the Members’ Handicap- attractively from Mukupal. Sir Juvaftte finished well tor third. The Tatua-Gus double paid £5 10s for £l. Travistream and Garnishee in the on-course double returned £4BlO 13s 6d for £l, there being only four winning 5s tickets on the successful pair. Racing was held in fine weather before a good attendance. The track was heavy. Shortly before the turn for home In the Members’ Handicap Gus (W. D. Skelton), wMch was going very freely, was In difficulty when he coul-d find no room in which to Improve and bad to be eased. In the straight Gue was Inclined to race eracticiUy and moved across the line of Monetary (R. A. Jenkins). Jenkins confirmed that he had to check only momentarily and that Ms chances were in no way affected. Skelton was shown the videotape and no further action was considered necessary. Results:—
