Iven though It was without several of Its more experienced players. Marist played with fire and rara tenacity to overwhelm Kaiapoi. Indeed, apart from the opening minutes, when Kaiapoi was firmly antrenched near the Mar--Ist goal-line, th* team seldom seemed capable of taking th* initially* from Marist. The Kaiapoi forward play was loos* and somewhat ragged and Us backs were frequently thwarted by the effective Marist cover defence. The Marist pack played with superb cohesion. W. Flavell and J. K. Keremeta were formidable in th* ricks and solid on defence. M. Hickey punted tirelessly and scored two good tries. J O. Coffey, at half-back. p. V Smith. D. McNaughton and B F Dobbs tn the three-quart-ers were the most polished Marist backs. Coffey frequently caught th* defence napping with his acceleration and deceptive running. . , _ J. Sellars, P.
