Hanmer Springs Baths
Sir, —While commending the recently-announced decision of Hanmer Lodge, Ltd., to construct a thermal pool, which should prove a valuable asset to their premises and to Hanmer Springs generally, the question arises: what provision, if any, is being made for use of the proposed pool by the general public? Further, will this demand on the restricted supply of thermal water jeopardise the provision of sorelyneeded extension of the present bath for women in the hospital grounds? I note that only the facilities in the present baths are to be improved.—Yours, etc., R.C.S. June 3, 1966.
[The director of the Mental Health Division of the Health Department (Dr. S. W. P. Mirams) replies: “Thermal water will be made available for use in proposed public swimming baths. The baths at the hospital will be redesigned and modernised on a smaller scale. The present private baths will be retained. The swimming baths will provide principally for the hospital’s needs, but there will also be arrangements for their use at specific times by members of the public who may wish to use them for health rather than recreational swimming.”]
