The Budget

Sir, —The National Government continues to ride roughshod over public opinion. With one blow they wipe off £25 million in NeW Zealander’s shareholding funds in Australia and expect these people to stomach the loss for the doubtful privilege of living in a Welfare State under their control. It seems obvious that they wish to lose the November election, have Labour retrieve the situation by probable devaluation, and keep their hands clean. Are we to accept this latest move with resignation and, indifference? The National Party has completely lost its image of the protector of private enterprise. One more door has been shut, the most important one, because it was immune to the terrible blunderings and mismanagement of national policy. The awful disillusionment with National Government, without mentioning the tremendous loss of another individual right, and hard cash, should be voiced immediately by every shareholder.—Yours, truly, EX-LAKE DISTRICT. June 19, 1966.
