SILVER PLOUGH QUALIFIER

G. T. Carter, of Greenpark, has qualified for the final of the Atlantic Silver Plough contest at Gore on July 30. From a field of 12, he won the North Canterbury qualifying event held on the property of Mr I. E. Frizzell, Springbank, on Saturday.

Carter is a twin brother of P. Carter who won the qualifying event at Methven last Tuesday. He scored 147 2-3 points against 14fi 1-3 by A. Johnstone (Rakaia), 145 2-3 by J. Kyle (Seadown) and 143 1-3 by R. M. Kingsbury (Wakanui). Carter was between 1 and 2 points ahead of his rivals in all respects except on ins and outs, where he dropped five points below the second, third and fourth platings. With such a drop on one aspect of his ploughing, he was considered lucky to have held his lead. In the other classes, the well-known contestant, J. G. Carter, of Templeton, was the most successful. He made

the best finish, and best break in the cut classes, and his plot was judged the best on the ground. This won him the Ashworth Cup for the third year in succession, thus making it an outright win.
