CANTERBURY BANK

New Branch At Linwood The Canterbury Savings Bank now has 51,000 depositors, and deposits totalling £lo.Bm, of which £7.lm is invested in Government loans, £375,000 in local body loans, and more than £3m in mortgages. These figures were given by the president of the bank’s board of trustees (Mr G. R. Burrowes), when he opened the banks twenty-first branch, and eighteenth in the city, at Buckleys road, east Linwood, yesterday. He said that this development, in less than four years since the bank’s founding, spoke well of public confidence. Mr Burrowes, who was accompanied by the bank’s general manager (Mr F. Dickson), unveiled a plaque, and congratulated the branch manager (Mr B. Frost). He also congratulated the first depositor, Mrs L. McCaughan, who opened a savings account for her 18-month-old son, Lance.
