Ashburton Fanciers 9 Show Entries Of High Standard
Entries were of a high standard in the seventy-fifth annual show of the Ashburton Fanciers’ Society, which opened in the Ashburton Sports Hall yesterday. In all, 1265 birds were entered in the show, and judges commented on the good forward condition of most birds, and said that, in general, the standard of exhibits had risen compared with last year.
Entries for the show came from all parts of the Dominion, especially from the north of the South Island.
Judges of a large poultry class said entries were the best seen in the South Island for several years. The best bird in the show was a game wheaten bantam, entered by Mr W. L. Gobbe, president of the South Island Poultry Association, of Christchurch. The bantam also won the award for best bantam of the show as well as several other first prizes. The pets’ parade and the judging of the cat section will
be held today. The show will conclude tonight. Judges were: Poultry, heavy breeds and juveniles, W. L. Gobbe, Christchurch; light breeds, J. H. Taylor, Christchurch; ducks, S. E.
